They can bend it all they want ..

Once a while, I love watching exclusive interviews on TV. Some of it are really interesting, while some of it are just plain boring. The thing about these interviews, the interviewers already have an idea on which direction you want all the answers to lead. If it's a talkshow, the host would simply ask questions that would relate to the general concern of the host themselves and see of their guest would come up with certain perspectives that would support the host's believes.

On other interviews, questions might want to see what makes the person tick or react in such a way. As some would see how far a person is passionate about what he or she do, others might just blatantly trying to humiliate the person with their 'trap' questions.

I came across a programme on John Mayer. They were interviewing him on his new album 'Continuum'. Asking him about the idea behind making the album, the story behind deciding on the album's direction and what makes him inspired to produce it in such a way. I'm amazed on how this guy explains everything on the process of making the album. From what inspires the album, the experimentation process and everything that makes him tick in crafting the album. John Mayer explains it clearly and passionately which, at the end of the session you would agree the high level of artistic value in him.

It's been a while since I heard any good interviews of a singer. Leave alone those interviews on the local artiste. It's already too bad most local artiste (READ : I said MOST.. not ALL. Jangan ngada-ngada nak kecik hati) can't gave inspiring and convincing answers to their interviews, which sometimes makes them sound stupid (it's how you answer it and not what language you use..hehe), but I'm sure the interviewers are to be blame too.

If questions are asked in a manner that would excite the artiste to answer it passionately. If intelligent questions are asked (and I don't say it should sound academically factual) to the artiste, I'm sure they would think properly before answering.

A good interviewer are those people who reads a lot, observant and have empathy to others, which I hope with have more of those people in the Malaysian media.

Until that happen, maybe I should just sit with John Mayer and wait for the world to change.. (err.. world?)

Agree?

It's not that we don't care
We just know that the fight ain't fair
So we keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change
