RECESSION : What's the most valuable investment?

This is what I read from a newsletter I subscribe on my email. I guess it's worth sharing it here..

What's the most valuable investment?

Dear Amiruddin,

Warren Buffet was asked not too long ago what investments were the most important during this economic recession. His response was that the most important investment you could make was in yourself. Looking at the 48% decline in my mutual fund portfolio since 2001 his point becomes all too clear.

But how often do we take for granted what we know or get lazy in developing our minds?

Knowledge is so powerful and such a good investment because it has no expiration date. You can’t get taxed on it and no one can take it away. Therefore any knowledge that empowers you to improve business, build connections, communicate better, or develop a valuable skill is something that has the power to continue to pay off even if you lost everything.

Here’s a prime example…

On Saturday my 11 year old son will be testing for his Black Belt in a Mixed Martial Art and Self-Defense System. He’s been training for about 3 years. And I can’t say that he’s been eager for every training session. Like most 8 to 11 year olds, his enthusiasm waxes and wanes with his attention span.

But he’s learned a valuable lesson - a lesson I wish I would have had at the same age. And that is that you won’t always be motivated to go after goals. In fact, I overheard him tell his sister that, “It won’t always be fun, but if you stick with it, it will be fun again.” That’s a lesson a lot of adults haven’t learned – that the pursuit of a goal isn’t always fun – that you have to give something up to gain something but in the end you do it because it’s MORE than worth it.

He’s also learned another valuable lesson…

That in pursuing a Black Belt, it’s not the belt that’s valuable; it’s the knowledge in his head and the skill he’s gained by repeatedly applying that knowledge. And there’s no shortcut for that. Buying a belt at a martial arts store won’t get you the knowledge or skill – only years of training will. You only get there by going through the process – cheat and you only cheat yourself.

Don’t hold back on gaining knowledge. Because once you have it, no one can take it from you. Apply it, and it can be worth gold.

Here's to your success,

Time to think & act a bit faster.. RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW

Found this Presentation on Youtube. Interesting facts about the world and how things have changed in the way we do things and the speed it progresses.

While this presentation mainly to get the attention of the Americans, I can't help wondering how this would affect Malaysia and most of it's people who rather live in denial, being ignorant, and try to avoid any changes from happening to them or around them.

WHY?? That's all you need to know.

John Maxwell - How Do You Define Success? from SUCCESS magazine on Vimeo

IN the journey through life. We all are given equal chances. All of us are given 24 hours for each day. We breathe oxygen. Problems that we face are at par with the stakes we're getting.

Then what seperates between the loser, the midiocre, the upper-midiocre (successful but not successful enough) and the highly successful.

Here's a video that would answer that question. I'm sure you'll know WHY.

I've seen better days ( If you're up for it...)

Hey, It's not too late to wish everybody HAPPY NEW YEAR & SALAM MAAL HIJRAH.. For those of you who still have not make any solid resolution for the new year, not to worry, Chinese New Year is just around the corner..

Anyway, what happened in 2008? One main theme for sure.. CHANGE. Although not much for the better, I'm sure we all hope for it to be the best it would be.

What about 2009? I'm guessing 'CHANGE' is still the main theme. Only this time it is not so much about the change in the political administration or economic system.

This time, it's about changing the mentality and attitude of each and every one of us. That means a change in our own perspectives on how we think, how we see things and how we react to everything around us.

Gone with the old insignificant ideas.. Embrace the significant ones..

Just like the peoples' power on embracing Blogs and Social Networks. This time it's about taking control of our intelligence and our life and the right not let it be insulted by others.

Now I have just started
And I won't be done till the end
There's nothing I have lost
That was once placed upon the palm of my hands
And all of these hard times
Have faded round the bend
Now that I'm wiser I cannot wait
Till I can help my friends
